The Declaration of Peace website homepage from December 10 to December 22, 2008.

We are thankful!

As the end of 2008 approaches, we in The Declaration of Peace National Coordinating Body are thankful for much.

We are grateful for the participation of thousands of you in ongoing efforts for Peace for Iraq, and we greatly appreciate all who generously support The Declaration of Peace.

Now is a time of transitions and a time of possibilities for real change. However, we know that real change will only come as the people inform and pressure the government to do the right thing: Establish a Comprehensive Peace Plan for Iraq and withdraw ALL U.S. troops and military contractors from Iraq.

The new Barack Obama Administration must hear from the people now! You are encouraged to write to the Obama-Biden Transition Team to let the new President know that real change in Iraq is a complete withdrawal of U.S. troops from Iraq (not just a drawdown of forces to then be sent to Afghanistan). Write to: http://change.gov/

The Declaration of Peace will participate in the United for Peace & Justice National Assembly in Chicago on December 12 – 14, to make plans with other Peace organizations and campaigns to work together for Peace for Iraq.

Looking ahead:

1. A full-page ad promoting Peace for Iraq and participation in The Declaration of Peace will appear in the February 2009 issue of Sojourners magazine.

2. Organizing is beginning for massive nationwide nonviolent resistance to the war and occupation in Iraq during March 2009, the 6th anniversary of the U.S. invasion. Watch this website for developments or sign up for e-mails. Help organize, write us!

Peace for Iraq is Possible!

Our efforts for Peace must continue in 2009 with diligence, ‘laser-like’ focus, and creativity. Increased involvement by you and everyone else is needed.

When the 111th Congress convenes in January 2009, help make Peace for Iraq a priority with your members of Congress.

The Declaration of Peace calls on everyone to commit to take actions to move U.S. policy-makers to bring U.S. troops and contractors out of Iraq and to work for Peace in Iraq.
