April 30, 2009: Funding War ~ Funding Peace

What will We The People choose?

Funding Peace or funding war?

This E-news Update covers:

Funding for The Declaration of Peace

President Obama’s Funding Request for the U.S. Military Occupations of Iraq and Afghanistan

Report from Christian Peace Witness for Iraq

Funding Peace

Thank you very much to everyone who contributed to last month’s fund appeal. In response to our request for funding from you, $863 was raised.

This nationwide campaign, The Declaration of Peace, has very modest expenses. We only need $4900 per year to meet all of our basic campaign expenses. Believe it or not, our expenses have actually gone down, thanks to a reduction in our webhosting costs. Since its inception in January 2006, The Declaration of Peace has, from month to month, always met its financial responsibilities, thanks to generous contributors like you. However, we have very few recurring contributors. (You know who you are – Thank you!)

Therefore, to ensure that we have the funding needed to continue this year, we must again ask for a donation from you. If you contributed last month, don’t feel that you need to donate again this month. This appeal goes to those who have never donated to The Declaration of Peace, or haven’t given yet in 2009.

Just a reminder: This is a volunteer-run nationwide campaign — your campaign! No one gets paid for our time and effort given to this campaign. All money raised goes toward expenses related to our website, e-blast, and data storage/ processing systems.

We only need $482 more to cover our financial responsibilities for the next two months.

Please help us reach our goal. Contribute what you can: $10 or $100 or anything in between!

Funding War

As most of you are well aware, on April 9, 2009, President Barack Obama made an appropriations request for $83.4 billion to pay for more war-making in Iraq and Afghanistan this year.

It is reported that the U.S. Congress will accelerate their efforts to provide more cash for the occupations of Iraq and Afghanistan, as well as provide $400 million for counter-insurgency assistance to the Pakistani military, and $1.4 billion in economic aid for Islamabad.

A vote on war funding is expected in the House of Representatives in mid-May. Our members of Congress must hear from constituents before then.

Voices of opposition to ongoing war-making and military occupation must be heard!

Next week, we’ll provide more details on the war funding request and what We The People can do to try to stop it.
