July 31, 2008: Monday Call with FCNL: Keep the Heat on Congress

Keep the Heat on Congress!

Starting August 11, all members of Congress will be back in their home districts for their Summer Work Period. Let’s make sure they’re actually working, and not just enjoying the sun. That’s a vacation that many of them haven’t earned.

In June, the Congress voted to fund the war until Spring of 2009, against the wishes of the vast majority of Americans and the 155 Representatives who did actually vote against the funding. They need to hear from us, in personal meetings, in public Town Hall meetings, on the phone, by mail, in the supermarket, by fax, everywhere. We must make it clear to them that ending the occupation of Iraq is not just a campaign issue - it’s a moral obligation.

To help you keep the heat on Congress, The Declaration of Peace is facilitating a National Conference Call this coming Monday, August 4 from 8 to 9 pm Eastern time.

Conference Call #: 1-309-946-5000 Access Code: 12 13 14 15

We are proud to welcome onto the call Kate Gould from the Friends Committee on National Legislation, the “Quaker Lobby”. Kate is FCNL’s Program Assistant for Foreign Policy and a member of their Iraq Peace Team.

The Declaration of Peace is a grassroots campaign. We draw our strength from our nationwide network of local activists.

For Monday’s call, we’re inviting you to bring your inspirational success stories and past challenges, your resources, and your questions to share with other activists around the country.

On this call, you’ll also learn the best ways to:

Please join Kate and the all-volunteer Declaration of Peace national coordinating body on this conference call.

“The U.S. has a moral obligation to provide generous support, compensation, and reparations to the people of Iraq, to help them rebuild their homes, health care system, schools, and infrastructure, and to ease the suffering of those who have been wounded, tortured, illegally detained, orphaned, or widowed.”
