  • Question all candidates for federal offices on ending the U.S. occupation of Iraq.
  • Make the public aware of the war funding voting records [1] of your members of Congress.
  • Speak out, write about, and take action for Peace in Iraq.

The people of Iraq are depending on our diligence!

RECOMMIT, REGROUP, REDOUBLE

Keep Peace for Iraq in the forefront of the 2008 Election Campaigns.

Over the past five years, the U.S. Congress has approved the spending of hundreds of billion of dollars [2] for devastating war and military occupation in Iraq.

In May and June 2008, a record number of members of Congress voted against more war funding. On May 22nd, 26 Senators voted against [3] — and on June 19th, 155 U.S. Representatives voted against [4] continuing to waste billions of dollars on an immoral occupation in Iraq.

Clearly, the increase in Congress members voting against more war funding is due to the coordinated efforts of the nationwide anti-war movement.

However, this wasn’t enough to stop the passage of more war appropriations.

In a final vote on June 26, 2008, the Congress approved an astonishing $161.8 billion [5] to continue the U.S. occupation of Iraq well into the next presidential administration!

Now that war funding has been secured through Spring of 2009, it is necessary for the anti-war movement to refocus our efforts [7]. While the “Defund the War” struggle is over for this year, our work in 2008 is far from over!

The Declaration of Peace calls on everyone to recommit, regroup, and redouble our efforts_ to move U.S. policy-makers to bring U.S. troops and contractors out of Iraq and to work for Peace in Iraq.

Keep Peace for Iraq in the forefront of the 2008 Election Campaign.

Look for e-mails later this month announcing national conference calls that will kick off Phase 5 of The Declaration of Peace nationwide campaign.

Encourage others to join us! [9]

Let’s all Recommit, Regroup, and Redouble our efforts for Peace in Iraq!
